Some good news folks! After a couple of sub-par spawning runs from the rainbow trout in the previous couple of years this year is looking to turn around for the better. With good to great numbers of big healthy rainbows filling the traps at the hatchery it looks as though the spawn run this year could be great. With the spawning fish making their way into the river system to do their thing a few of these should take up residency for the upcoming river fishing season (hopefully they will stick around all summer?)
There has also been quite a few bigger fish in large numbers coming into the shallows of the lake edges. If you are into sight fishing around the lake edges now is the time to get out there and try and turn some heads. Unweighted nymphs and small unweighted wooly buggers should work a treat. Just remember to walk slowly and keep your eyes in the shallow water, a stealthy approach will reward!
the weather over the past few days has been magic!! The days are getting warmer and longer and the fish are starting to move closer to the lake edge. Over the next few weeks the polaroiding should really start to fire up. A few fisher folk have been out and about and there have been plenty of fish spotted and a few connections have been made. Over the next few weeks as the weather warms a little more the bugs should start to make an appearance which should bring a few more trout within casting distance. There have also been reports of a few rainbows starting to move into the river system getting ready to do their thing, hopefully this is a good sign that the opening could be a winner this year. After a couple of average openings in a row this could be “The Year”. I will keep you all posted on what’s happening on the lake over the next couple of weeks! With all this good news it’s time to get out there and “Rip some Lip!!
